Student-athletes at Nyack College earned an 11th place finish in the 2017 NCAA® Team Works™ | Helper Helper Community Service Competition for their community outreach efforts.   The competition was conducted from January through March and the winning schools are selected based on the number of service hours and participation of student-athletes among schools across the country.

The student-athletes at Nyack College gave over 698 hours of their time and had 98% participation among their athletes during the competition that ran throughout the Spring 2017 semester.   Throughout the 2016-17 academic year, the Warriors have accumulated 1,690 hours of community service.

The Warriors participated in multiple community service activities, from helping a local elementary school raise funds to shoveling snow during winter snow storms.

"Our student-athletes have so much on their places from practices and games to homework and studying for tests," said Assistant Athletic Director, Mandy Aikens.  "We are very proud that our student-athletes take our institution's core values of being globally engaged and socially relevant so seriously.  It has been inspiring to watch them take on community service and volunteer opportunities every chance they get."

NCAA Team Works, which coordinates community service efforts at NCAA championships, and Helper Helper, a volunteer management and tracking platform, launched the community service competition to recognize student-athletes who give back to their communities.  "Connecting student-athletes and member schools to their communities highlights the impact of leadership, collaboration and dedication in college sports and cities across the country," said Victor Hill, NCAA associate director of championships and community programs. "NCAA Team Works is proud to recognize the difference student-athletes make beyond the classroom and competition, while also supporting the student-athlete experience and celebrating their success in life through service projects and community engagement."
