Pomona, NY - The men's baseball team topped the University of Bridgeport in a non-conference game this evening at Provident Bank Park by a score of 5-4.
Phil Erwin would get the Warriors on the board in the first inning, scoring Kris Chatman who had doubled earlier in the inning on a ground ball to the shortstop. Mike Langston would bring home the Warriors 2nd run in the bottom of the 2nd, successfully executed a push bunt with a runner on their to make the score 2-0. Eric Roe brought in the Warriors third run an inning later, scoring Erwin from third base.
Bridgeport would battle back to tie the score at 3-3 with a 3-run fifth inning. Michael Smith would lead off the 7th inning with a double down the right field line and would move to third base on a sac bunt from Jan-Pi Crespo. Cole Tobin would drive in the go-ahead run with a deep fly ball to center field to score Mike Smith. Eric Roe would then bring in the game winner on an rbi ground to give Nyack a 5-3 advantage.
Cole Tobin delivered a quality start for the Warriors, pitching 6.1 strong innings of work, allowing 3 runs and striking out 4. Erik Puterio would come in to pick up the win, pitching 2.2 innings and striking out 1.
TJ Briggs would collect 2 hits in the win, and Eric Roe would drive in 2 rbi's.
Nyack returns to action Thursday, when they play Caldwell at home at 3 PM before traveling to West Point for their season finale against Army this Saturday.
