Naugatuck, CT - The men's baseball team came out on top of an 11-0 victory yesterday evening in a CACC contest against Post University played at Naugatuck High School. The win brings the Warriors conference mark to 7-3 on the season.
The Warriors would add a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. John Kennedy began the inning with an infield single, stole second base, and was brought home on a double by Christian Benitez. Ryan Kahl would bring in Nyack's 2nd run, scoring Benitez on a sac fly to center.
The Warriors would plate 4 more in the 4th to take a commanding 6-0 lead of the contest. RBI singles from Kahl, Barton, and Pino would plate runs for Nyack. Nyack's 7th run would come in when a Post error allowed Benitez to score from 2nd after doubling earlier in the inning.
A Pino double would make the score 8-0 in the 7th. Runs 9 and 10 would come home on Eagle wild pitches, before Benitez drilled an opposite field homer to bring in the Warriors 11th run.
Jose Corrales would take a no-hit bid into the top of the 8th inning before surrending the first Eagle hit. Corrales would allow 1-hit over 7.1 innings and fan 13 Eagles in his 3rd consecutive strikeout performance. Erik Bussey woudl preserve the shut out, collecting the final 5 outs in the Warrior win.
Nyack would pound out 14 hits on the day, highlighted by a 5-5 performance from Christian Benitez. Benitez would collect 2 doubles, a home run and 2 singles, while driving in 2. Ruben Correa, Jesse Barton, and Pino would also collect multi-hit games in the win.
The Warriors will return to action Wednesday when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College at Provident Bank Park. First pitch is slated for 3 PM.
