Baseball Opens Season with Split Against Lincoln University

Aston, PA - The men's baseball team opened its 2017 season with a trip to Aston, PA to compete against the Lincoln University Lions. The Warriors earned a split with the Lions on Friday by scores of 12-33 and 10-0. 

Game 1

The Warriors would pull ahead in the top of the first inning in game one, scoring four times. Senior Ruben Correa (Orlando, FL) was up at bat with bases loaded and hit the ball out of the stadium with his first Grand Slam of the seaons.

Nyack would score two more times in the top of the 5th inning. Gabriel Vasquez and Luke Kelly reached the home base to give the Warriors the 6-0 lead. The Lions answered with three scored runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth and the seventh inning to tie the game 6-6.

The Warriors would pull ahead again with four scored runs in the top of the 8th. A Jesse Barton single allowed Carlos Pino and Ryan Kahl to score, before a Gabriel Vasquez single brought Dillon Good and Anthony Torreullas home. The Lions answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the 8th to the game at 10-10.

Ryan Kahl homered with Yoni Rodriguez at first base to get Nyack ahead by two in the top of the 9th. However, the Lions would come back with three scored runs to take the 13-12 win in game one. 

Hayden Killebrew pitched 4.2 innings, facing 26 batters, giving up seven hits, three runs, and striking out four. Omar Celaya pitched for 2.1 innings facing 11 batters striking out one, before David DeGenaro faced 10 batters striking out three of them.

Game 2

Game two saw a one sided affair with the Warriors jumping ahead early scoring through a Ryan Kahl home run in the top of the first.

The Warriors scored again in the top of the 4th when a Gabriel Vasquez single scored Ruben Correa.

Correa singled in the top of the fifth to bring Luke Kelly home, to give the Warriors the 3-0 lead. 

Nyack would seal the victory with seven scored runs in the top of the 7th. Another Ruben Correa single would bring home Carlos Pino and Ryan Kahl. Jesse Barton scored of an error by the Lions, before Ruben Correa would score another run with the help of a Lions' wild pitch. Yoni Rodriguez would finish the Warrior scoring with a home run, bringing home Vasquez and Isaak Busamante.

Kyle Tedesco would go the distance in the 10-0 win. Tedesco faced 26 batters giving up one hit and striking out three. 

Nyack will start its Spring Break trip to Florida on March 3rd, facing Assumption College in a 6 pm contest at Rollins College.
