Winter Park, FL - The Nyack College men's baseball team has successfully finished its second day of their 2017 Spring Break Journey. The Warrior defeated St. Anselm 8-4 in eight innings and improve their record to 2-2.
Yoni Rodriguez would start the Warriors off with a home run into the left field to give Nyack the early 1-0 lead. Ryan Kahl would add another run after a throwing error by the St. Anselm catcher. The Hawks answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning, making the score 2-1 in favor of Nyack.
The top of the second inning saw the Warriors with bases loaded when Ryan Kahl stepped up to bat. He was eventually walked, which allowed to Dillon Good to advance to home plate. Carlos Pino would follow up with a single to left center to bring home Luke Kelly and Gabriel Vasquez, 5-1.
A Carlos Pino single to right field allowed Yoni Rodriguez to score, before a Jesse Barton sacrifice fly would bring home Luke Kelly. St. Anselm tried everything to prevent the loss, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh. However, the last two innings remained scoreless for both teams and the game finished with a final score of 8-4 in favor of the Warriors.
Hayden Killebrew pitched 7 innings, striking out 10 of the 30 batters faced. He also accumlated an impressive 79 strikes during his 112 pitches. Omar Celaya closed out the game for the Warriors in the final two innings facing seven batter and striking out two of them.
The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow when they face the hosts Rollins College in a 2pm contest. Rollins College will provide live video stream, as well as live stats.
