Nyack, NY - The Nyack College baseball team collected its first two conference wins of the 2017 season. The Warriors swept the University of the Sciences Devils on Saturday afternoon. Nyack took the games with scores of 3-0 and 3-2. The sweep imrpoves the Warriors' record to 9-8 overall and 2-2 in CACC play.
Game one did not see any scored runs until the bottom of the eighth inning. Nyack's Jesse Barton would score the first Warrior run of the day, after Hayden Allen flied out to center field. Yoni Rodriguez and Gabriel Vasquez would also reach home base after a Luke Kelly double to center field.
The Warriors started the second game hot, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ryan Kahl and Carlos Pino scored after a Jesse Barton triple to right field, before Barton reached home base himself after a Anthony Torreullas single up the middle. The Devils tried to come back and scored twice in the top of the sixth to cut the Nyack lead down to one. But Omar Celaya came in hot once again, closing out the game with a quick three and out, including two strikeouts.
Jose Corrales pitched five of the seven innings, striking out five and giving up four hits.
Up next: Nyack will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Concordia College for a CACC doubleheader at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
