Nyack College Baseball Announces 2017-18 Recruiting Class

Nyack, NY - The Nyack College Baseball team is pleased to announce its 2017-18 recruting class. Coach Cornacchione and his coaching staff are welcoming 15 new players for this year's campaign. See below for a brief description of all the newcomers. 

Ben Bills, York, PA, Christian School of York, Pitcher and Infielder

  • Nyack's lone early signee from the november signing period

  • Batted at a .614 clip in his senior season with 15 extra base hits

  • Did not register a strikeout at the plate in 61 plate appearances

  • Junior year on the mound,  struck out 55 batters in 47 innings of work against just 3 free passes

  • As a junior he batted .653 with 20 rbi's and 2 homers

  • Also netted 11 goals with 3 assists as a member of the Crusaders soccer team this fall

Coaches Comment:  "Ben is someone who came on our radar when he was was a sophomore in high school at our camp.  He has tremendous potential to be a major impact right away both on the mound and as a position player."

 

John E. Bean III, Bradenton, FL, Braden River /Providence Community School, (FL), Pitcher/Outfield

  • Appeared in 11 games, totaling 4 wins as a senior for the Pirates, throwing 44 innings and posting a 2.50 ERA

  • Equally impressive as a hitter, batted over .300 as a senior and hit .350 as a junior

  • All around athlete, swiped 13 bases his senior season

  • Excellent student, graduated with a 4.5 GPA

Coaches Comment:  "John's another great fit for us.  He's an experienced starting pitcher at a great level of high school baseball in Bradenton, FL.  He's also a great overall athlete, hit 3rd for his high school team, and has the potential to be a dual guy for us in the future."

 

Jeremiah Alonzo, Houston, TX, Mountain View Community College, Infield/Outfield

  • Started 70 games for the Lions, mostly in centerfield

  • Batted .319 as a freshman

Coaches Comment:  "Jeremiah's an experienced college player, and versatile piece for us.  He can play up the middle or any of the three outfield spots.  He's a good athlete and we believe he will be a great fit for CACC baseball."

 

Colton Zellmer, Keller, TX, Mountain View Community College , Pitcher

  • 2nd team all-district pitcher at Fossil Ridge HS in Keller, TX

  • Appeared on the mound and behind the dish for the Mountain View Community College Lions

  • As a freshman logged 50  innings on the hill for the Lions over the past two seasons

  • Also appeared in 40 games behind the plate

  • Graduated with his associates and a 3.4 GPA

Coaches Comment: "Colton's going to be a go-to arm for us this year.  He's got great overall game knowledge with his college experience on the mound and behind the plate.  He definitely fits the mold of building the staff with baseball players that pitch."

 

Josh Paulton, Clearwater, FL Keswick Christian School, Outfield / Pitcher

  • Batted at a .323 clip with a .521 on base percentage

  • Stole 11 bags as a senior

  • Pitched 15 innings out of the bullpen for the crusaders, totaling 3 saves with a 1.79 ERA

Coaches Comment: "Josh is a solid all around baseball player.  Good knowledge of the game and knows what he needs to do to be successful.  He's a great fit for Nyack and adds both a left-handed outfield stick and can be a lefty arm our bullpen."

 

Quinton Pertkiewicz, Pinella's Park, FL,  Keswick Christian School, 1st Base/ Pitcher

  • Batted .397 with a .568 on base percentage

  • Slugged 13 extra base hits including 5 home runs

  • Also tossed 27 innings on the mound for the Crusaders, logging 38 K's and a 1.52 ERA

Coaches Comment:  "Quinton has potential to be a middle of the lineup bat for us his entire college career.  He will redshirt this season and we look forward to him growing into an impact player in our program."

 

Taylor Nolan, Talking Rock, Georgia, Gilmer High School, Pitcher

  • Athletic side arm pitcher

  • Led his summer team in stolen bases summer 2017

  • Also interested in performing arts

Coaches Comment:  "Taylor fits the mold of athletic pitchers that we are looking to build our staff with.  His athleticism and ability to be a drop down arm for us on the mound are definite assets."

 

Brandon Rivera, Wappinger Falls, NY, STAC, Infield

  • MCBL All-Star Summer 2017

  • HS Honors

  • Transfer from St. Thomas Aquinas College

Coaches Comment:  "Brandon is an experienced college infielder with 3 years of eligibility remaining.  He's coming off a great summer as an MCBL All-Star and definitely makes us immediately better at several infield spots."

 

Alec Petterson, Fort Morgan, TX Trinidad State Junior College, Outfield

  • As a freshman  posted an impressive 292 batting average, 438 on base percentage with 12 extra base hits and 15 stolen bases for Trinidad State Junior College

  • As a sophomore atted .301 with a .385 on base percentage with 16 extra base hits and again swiping 15 bags

  • Excellent student 3.6 gpa

Coaches Comment: "Alec is an experienced, well rounded college player and overall athlete.  We expect him to be an impact player on the field and off in our program."

 

Herman Alvarado, San Diego, CA,  Trinidad State Junior College, Infield

  • Won back to back region titles for the Trojans during the 2016 & 2017 seasons

  • In two seasons at TSJC batted 325 with 20 extra base hits, a 450 on base percentage and 23 stolen bases

  • Versatile defender capable of playing all infield positions

  • Graduated from Trinidad with a 3.3 gpa

Coaches Comment:  "Versatile infielder and top or middle of the lineup type hitter.  Very excited about adding him to our program and are looking forward to him making an impact in all areas of the program."

 

Hakim Williams, Lake Worth, FL, Santaluces High School, Pitcher

  • 1st team All-Conference, 2nd team All Sun-Sentinel All County.  2nd Team HSBN All American.  1st Team All-District.  2nd Team Palm Beach Post All Area Team.  HSBN Senior All-Star and Dick Howser All-Star Selection

  • Posted a 1.21 ERA which ranked 3rd in the district

  • Totaled 50 innings of work, tallying 48 strikeouts

  • Also won the Santaluces HS Mr. Chief Sportsmanship Award

  • Comes from an athletic family.  His older brother's both played college sports.   Rashaad played tennis at FAMU, and his brother Kamil played at Savannah State before transferring to Lee's-McRae.  Parents are Kimberly and Harold Williams

  • Will major in music this fall at Nyack.

  • Chose Nyack over FAMU, Palm Beach State College, and North Carolina Wesleyan

Coaches Comment:  "Hakim came on our radar at the exact right time.  He gives us a projectable, quality arm and we expect him to compete for major innings right away.  He has a combination of a college level stuff on the mound as well as being a tremendous competitor."

 

Logan Mann, New Bloomfield, PA, West Perryville High School, Pitcher

  • The only pitcher in central Pennsylvania to win 10 games during the 2017 HS season

  • Tossed 7 complete games with a 0.91 ERA in 69 innings of work in his senior season

  • Totaled 59 strikeouts with 1 save

Coaches Comment:  "Logan is a very versatile  and non-traditional arm that can pitch in multiple situations.  He's another excellent competitor with composure and has an amazing personal story with everything that he has overcome.  We're excited to have him and he's a great fit for us."

 

Matthew Johnson, Plantation, FL, Chaminade Madonna High School, Infield

  • Batted .320 with 9 extra base hits as a senior

  • Has a knack for putting the ball in play 5K's in 75 PA

  • Experienced at every infield spot

  • Also swiped 7 bags during his senior campaign

Coaches Comment:  "Matt is coming off an excellent senior season against a strong south Florida High School schedule.  He's a versatile infielder that could work his way into being a lineup regular with his versatility."

 

Daniel Hupal, Grenwich, CT, Home School, Pitcher

  • Right handed pitcher with size and potential

  • Played his summer ball for the Greenwich Cannons travel ball organization

Coaches Comment:  "Daniel has tremendous upside.  He has all the makings of an impact arm at the college level with his size and potential to have a plus secondary pitch.  It's going to be exciting to see how quickly he develops."

 

Alber Pichardo,  Bronx, NY, Bronx Design and Construction Academy, Catcher

  • Played summer ball for the Brooklyn Bonnie's for Coach Jerry Katzke

  • Catcher with size and upside

Coaches Comment: "Alber came on our radar after one of our winter camps last year.  We're excited to add another catcher and we look forward to seeing how quickly he develops."
