The Nyack College baseball team squared off with CACC rivals Concordia College in a non-conference match in Florida. The Warriors got their 5th win of the season and improved their overall record to 5-3-1.
The Warriors got on the scoreboard first when Anthony Torreullas doubled to right center and Luke Kelly reached home to give Nyack the 1-0 lead. Torreullas would then go on and score a run of his own after a Austin Fischer's sacrifie fly out. Concordia answered back right away and score a run of its own in the bottom of the first. But Herman Alvarado's single to right field allowed Gabriel Vasquez to put up another run for Nyack in the bottom of the second inning, 3-1. The Warriors would continue to add to their lead when they scored a pair of runs in the top of the 5th and the 6th to make the score 7-1. Concordia showed some potential for a comeback when they scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th, but Nyack would add five runs to their side of the score to run away with the game, 12-3. Luke Kelly would score the final run for the Warriors on the day, before the Clippers got one of their own to finish the game with a final score of 13-4 in favor of the Warriors.
Herman Alvarado, Anthony Torreullas, Austin Fischer, and Isaak Bustamante all recorded two hits for Nyack. Bustamante also led the Warriors with a game-high three RBIs. Hakim Williams got his first win for Nyack with 5.1 innings pitched, while giving up three hits and three earned runs, while striking out five of the 24 batters he faced. AJ Vasquez finished the game with 3.2 innings giving up one hit and two earned runs, striking out four of the 16 batters that squared up with him.
The Warriors will be back tomorrow when they are hosted by Rollins College. First pitch is slated for 3:00pm.
