Nyack, NY - The Nyack College Baseball team split its home doubleheader with the Wilmington University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at Nyack HS. The Warriors took the win in game win with a final score of 2-1, while the Wildcats came out on top in game two with a score of 4-3. With the split the Warriors are now 9-8-1 and 2-2 in conference play, while the Wildcats are 6-10 and 3-1 in CACC play.
Wilmington scored first in the top of the 4th after a single by Dakota Graham, which saw Brooks Ryan reach home base. But the Warriors answered right away in bottom of the 4th. Anthony Torreullas scored after a Alec Petterson single to left field. But Nyack wasn't done yet. Isaak Bustamante singled to third base which allowed Carlos Pino to score and push the Warriors ahead, 2-1. But Jack Kelley led the Warriors from the amount in the remaining five innings, giving up two hits and striking out four. Kelley pitched all nine innings giving up five hits and striking out five of the 32 batters he faced.
Game two saw Nyack jump ahead in the bottom of the first. An error by the Wildcat's pitcher allowed Luke Kelly and Herman Alvarado to give the Warriors a early 2-0 lead. But Wilmington answered right away scoring four runs in the top of the second inning to earn a 4-2 lead. Nyack was trying to get back into the game but wasn't able to put another run on the scoreboard until the 7th inning. Alec Petterson scored after Matthew Johnson grounded out. The Warriors tried to find the game tying run but were kept short by the Wildcat's pitching staff in the last two innings.
Chase Morris pitched eight innings for Nyack giving up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out four batters.
Nyack will be back on Tuesday when they host the Mercy College Mavericks in a non-conference game played at the Palisades Credit Union Park. First pitch is slated for 3:00pm.
