Nyack, NY - The Nyack College baseball team squared off with the Dominican College Chargers on Thursday afternoon in a CACC doubleheader played at the Palisades Credit Union Park. The Chargers took game one with a score of 4-3, while the Warriors got their W with a 8-2 victory in game 2. With the split the Warriors are now 10-12-1 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
The first game was spread out evenly for the majority of the first half of the game. It took until the 6th inning before the deadlock was broken. Dominican scored the first three runs of the day in the bottom of the 6th to take the 3-0 lead. The Chargers added another security run in the bottom of the 7th to extend their lead to four. Nyack answered back with a run of their own in the top of the 8th. Luke Kelly scored off a Carlos Pino single. The Warriors tried to tie the game back up in the top of the 9th, but just fell a run short. A Herman Alvarado double to left field allowed Jeremiah Alonzo and Gabriel Nunez to score, which gave the Warriors hope for a comeback. But the Chargers pitching staff would keep the Warriors from scoring any additional runs which ended the game with a final score of 3-4.
The Warriors got on the scorebaord first in game two. Herman Alvarado scored after a Luke Kelly single and Kelly reached home after a Anthony Torreullas single up the middle. Dominican would answer right back with a run in the bottom of the first, 2-1. The Warriors extended their lead with three scored runs in the top of the third. With bases loaded Isaak Bustamante hit a double into right field, which cleared the bases allowing Pino, Alec Petterson, and Jonathan Santiago to reach home. Nyack would add another pair of runs in the top of the 4th when Austin Fischer scored off a Luke Kelly single and Kelly scored himself after a Carlos Pino sacrifice fly.
It was Luke Kelly again who scored the final run for the Warriors in the top of the 6th. Alec Petterson forced the walk with the bases loaded and allowed Kelly to reach home plate. The Chargers added the final run of the game in the bottom of the 7th.
The Warriors will be back on Saturday when the take on the Felician University Golden Falcons in a CACC doubleheader at the Palisades Credit Union Park. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm.
