Nyack, NY - The Nyack College baseball team traveled to New Jersey on Monday afternoon to take on North Division rivals Caldwell University in a CACC doubleheader. The warriors wept the Cougars with scores of 4-0 and 5-1 and are now posting an overall record of 13-13-1 and 6-6 in conference.
The game stayed tied until the top of the 7th when the Warriors broke the deadlock of the game. Matthew Johnson scored off a Chris Colotti double left field. Nyack added two more in the top of the 8th. Herman Alvarado scored after a Carlos Pino single and John E. Bean III scored off a Austin Fischer sacrifice fly.
Chase Morris led the Warriors on the mound pitching 7.0 innings allowing five hits and striking out six.
The Cougars scored first in game two when Bernstein scored after a DeSanti single. The Warriors tied the game in the top of the 4th when Herman Alavardo scored off a Anthony Torreullas single. The Warriors took the lead in the top of the 6th with three scored runs. Chris Colotti was walked with the bases loaded, which allowed Luke Kelly to score. Matthew Johnson was up next and singled to left field and Alec Petterson and Carlos Pino scored for Nyack to give the Warriors a three run lead. Gabriel Vasquez rouned up the scoring for Nyack in the top of the 7th when he scored off a Torreullas fly out.
Jack Kelly pitched all seven innings for the Warriors allowing six hits and one earned run, while striking out two of the 29 batters he faced.
Nyack will be back on Wednesday when they host the Bloomfield College Bears in a CACC doubleheader starting at 12pm.
