Nyack, NY - The Nyack College baseball team hosted the Bloomfield College Bears in a CACC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Nyack edged out the Bears in game one with a final score of 2-1. The Bears, on the other hand, rallied back to take the W in game two with a score of 10-4. With the split the Warriors now hold a record of 14-14-1 and 7-7 in CACC play.
Both teams battled back and forth during the first two innings of the game. Senior Zachary Martirano led Nyack in the first three innings giving up only one hit, while striking out three. Gabriel Vazquez put the first run on the scorebaord in the bottom of the third. Herman Alvarado was up to bat and doubled to right field. An error by the Bears' rightfielder allowed Alvarado to advance to third and Vazquez to reach home plate. Alvarado then scored himself when Austin Fischer singled down the right field line.
The score remained at 2-0 until the top of the 7th when the Bears scored their first run of the day to come within one. But freshman Logan Mann secured the win for the Warriors with his fourth save of the season. Zachary Martirano finished the game with six innings, giving up four hits, while striking out four of the 23 batters he faced.
The Warriors scored first in game two when Luke Kelly hit a bomb to center field to get all the way to third base. Herman Alvarado scored off the hit. But the Bears went on to score nine consecutive runs over the next five innings to jump to a 8-1 lead. The Warriors got two more runs in the bottom of the 6th. Brandon Rivera was walked with the bases loaded which allowed Anthony Torreullas to move to home plate. Carlos Pino scored the second run of the inning when Alec Petterson was up to bat and reached first due to fielder's choice. The Bears added another run in the top of the 7th to make the score 10-3.
Up next: The Warriors will be back tomorrow when they travel to Connecticut to take on the Post University Eagles in a CACC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12pm.
