Warriors and Chargers Split CACC Doubleheader

Nyack, NY - The Nyack College baseball team hosted the Dominican College Chargers on Tuesday afternoon in a CACC doubleheader at the Palisades Credit Union Park. The doubleheader was split between both teams with scored of 5-2 in favor of Dominican in game one and 12-5 in favor of the Warriors in game two. Nyack is now 18-16-1 overall and 11-9 in conference play and continues to sit in second place in the CACC North Division. 

The Chargers scored first in game one when a single allowed Elijah Tavarez to score in the top of the third inning. Nyack tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth. Luke Kelly's ground-rule double allowed Herman Alvarado to score. The momentum seemed to shift in favor of the Warriors, but with runners on second and third in the bottom of the 6th they were unable to score the go ahead run. The Chargers then went on to to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th to take the 3-1 lead. Dominican scored another pair of runs in the bottom of the 9th to extend their lead to four. Alec Petterson scored off a Austin Fischer single in the bottom of the 9th, but the Warriors were unable to put up anymore runs to tie the game. The game finished with a final score of 5-2.  

Game two saw both teams go through a rather absurd first inning. The Chargers would put up five runs in the top of the first inning, while the Warriors answered right away with seven runs of their own to make the score 7-5 after the first inning. Nyack extended their lead with another pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Alec Petterson scored of a Gabriel Vasquez single to left field. Hayden Allen then scored off a Luke Kelly sacrifice fly. The Warriors wrapped up the game with set of of runs in the bottom of the 4th. Isaak Bustamante hit the ball out of the park with Anthony Torreullas on base and Gabriel Vasquez doubled to left center to allow Petterson to reach home plate. 

Freshman Hakim Williams pitched a complete game and got his third win of the season, giving up 8 hits and one earned run. 

The Warriors will be back today when they host the Concordia College Clippers in a CACC doubleheader at 3pm.
