Jack Kelley With Shutout in Split with Goldey-Beacom

The Nyack College baseball team traveled to Delaware to take on the Goldey-Beacom Lightning in a CACC doubleheader. The Warriors took game one with a 4-0 shutout, while the Lightning came back late in game two and took the W with a 3-2 victory. With the split the Warriors are now 22-20-1 overall and 15-13 in conference play. 

Game one remained scoreless for the majority of the first half. Herman Alvarado broke the deadlock in the top of the 6th and scored the first run for the Warriors after a Austin Fischer single. Nyack added three more runs in top of the 8th. Luke Kelly was walked with the bases loaded and Hayden Allen scored. Alvarado then scored his second run of the day after a passed ball and Austin Fischer rounded up the scoring for the Warriors when he scored off a Anthony Torreullas sacrifice fly. The Warrior defense continued to shut down the Lightning and the game ended with a final score of 4-0. Jack Kelley pitched a complete shutout game striking out 8 batters and giving up only six hits. 

The second game took a similar turn as the first one. Nyack scored early this time when Carlos Pino scored off a Gabriel Vazquez sacrifice bunt. Vaquez reached first on the play, because of fielder's choice and advanced to second off an error by the Goldey-Beacom catcher. It was Vazquez who then scored off Herman Alavarado single to give Nyack a 2-0 lead. Freshman Ben Bills gave up no hits until bottom of the 6th. He kept the Lightning at bay for all the eight innings he pitched giving up two hits while striking out two. The Lightning would come back in the final inning scoring three runs to take the come from behind victory. 

Up next: The Warriors are back on the road today to take on the Concordia College Clippers in a CACC doubleheader.
