Nyack, NY - The Nyack College baseball team travelled to Bronxville, NY to take on the Concordia College Clippers in a CACC doubleheader. The Clippers took game one with a final score of 10-2, while the Warriors kept the upper hand in the second match of the day with a final score of 5-2. With the split the Warriors are now 23-21-1 overall and 16-14 in CACC play.
The Clippers scored first in the bottom of the third and added another pair of runs in the following inning jumping to a 3-0 lead. Nyack's Alec Petterson hit his second homerun of the season to bring the Warriors back within two. But Concordia kep tpulling away adding another four runs in the bottom of the 6th to go up by six, 7-1. Matthew Johnson scored the second run for the Warriors in game one in the bottom of the 7th, before the Clippers rounded up the scoring with three more in the bottom of the 8th, 10-2.
Game two started off better for Nyack. Petterson scored in the bottom of the 2nd inning off an error by the Clipper's defense. Concordia pulled ahead again with runs in the 3rd and 4th to go up 2-1. But the Warriors fought their way back into the game. Luke Kelly tied the game after a Carlos Pino single in the top of the 6th. Neither team could find the game winning run in the 7th, which forced extra innings. The Warriors scored three times in the top of the 8th to take the victory in game two. Petterson scored his second run, which came off a Concordia error as well. Gabriel Vazquez scored off a Hayden Allen sacrifice fly and Herman Alavardo rounded up game two with a homerun to left field.
Up next: The Warriors will be back on Tuesday to take on the Bloomfield College Bears.
