Baseball Falls to Caldwell on the Road

Caldwell, NJ - The Nyack College baseball team traveled to New Jersey to take on the Caldwell University Cougars in a CACC divisional doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Basics:

Final: Nyack 6, Caldwell 14
Records: NC (6-14-1, 2-5), CU (3-12, 1-6)

Game Summary:

Game 1:

  • Caldwell got on the board first in the bottom of the first scoring a pair of runs
  • Nyack tied the game up in the top of third Chris Colotti scored off a Yoni Rodriguez single, and Rodriguez then scored off a Austin Fischer hit to right field
  • Caldwell jumped back ahead in the bottom of the third scoring three runs, before Nyack tied the game up once again in the top of the 4th
  • Alec Petterson scored of a Brandon Rivera double, Rivera later reached home as well, and Jeremiah Alonzo scored off a Rodriguez triple
  • Caldwell pulled away scoring six times in the bottom of the fifth and scoring three times in the bottom of the 7th
  • Nyack's last run of game one came in the top of the 8th when Brandon Rivera scored off a Rodriguez single

Game 2:

  • Caldwell jumped to an early 3-0 lead with runs scored in the bottom of the first and second inning
  • Nyack came back within one scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third
  • Yoni Rodriguez doubled to left field which allowed Gabe Vasquez to score, Rodriguez then scored of a David Gauthier ground out
  • Nyack tied up the game in the top of the fifth when Vasquez scored off a Gauthier single
  • but the Cougars answered back right away scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth and adding another in the bottom of the 6th to take the win in game two with a score of 8-3

Key Performances:
Yoni Rodriguez had five hits in 8 at bats, including a triple and a double with four runs batted in.

Nyack will host the Cougars in another CACC doubleheader on Friday at the Palisades Credit Union Park at 1pm and 4:30pm.
