Nyack Secures Talented Pair of NY Guards
Nyack, NY - Nyack Men's Basketball is proud to announce the additions of Dante Agnew (Queens, NY) and Darren Chew (Uniondale, NY) to the Warrior program. The once Catholic League rivals will now team up on the hardwood together at Nyack.
Queens native, Dante Agnew was the first of the pair to commit to new head coach Jason Crafton. The super-quick floor general once spearheaded the Saint Mary's High School offensive attack. His 11.4 points and 7.8 assists per game played a major role in guiding the Gaels to a Long Island Championship in 2011. Dante spent last season at Sullivan Community College leading them to a 27-3 record and a conference championship appearance.
Agnew on committing to Nyack:
"I committed to Nyack College because I wanted to be a part of helping build a winning program and to help the new head coach Jason Crafton. He seems to embody the type of coach whose program I want to be a part of."
Shortly after hearing about Agnew's school selection, Uniondale-bred Darren Chew would also choose Nyack. Standing at 6'2" with tremendous athleticism and shooting touch, the former Saint Dominic's and Team Underrated AAU guard has the ability to play multiple positions. Chew's final college choices came down to Nyack and Merrimack College from the Northeast 10 Conference.
Chew on his final decision:
"I picked Nyack because it had a great family atmosphere and I strongly believe in Coach Crafton's vision for the program. We developed a really strong relationship and I think he can make me a better player and person. I also liked the Christian atmosphere at Nyack along with the prestigious academic history. Having the chance to play with Dante Agnew in the backcourt was also appealing. I feel we can do great things."
Coach Crafton states:
Dante and Darren's abilities truly compliment each other. I love the fact that they already know one another and are eager to play together---that's extremely unique! In addition to their basketball talents, they are excellent students and high character individuals. The Nyack Community will embrace these student-athletes and I look forward to coaching and mentoring them. Special thanks goes out to Coach Ira Hunt of Saint Mary's and Coach Andre Edwards of Team Underrated AAU for their collective efforts with Dante and Darren respectively.
