Men's Basketball Holds Off STAC 66-63

Nyack, NY - In a game that was truly a tale of two halves, the men's basketball team earned a non-conference victory this evening over nearby rival St. Thomas Aquinas by a score of 66-63.

The Warriors would get off to a hot start in the first 10 minutes of play, earning an early 19-9 advantage.  Nyack would close the half with a 22-9 run to take a 41-18 lead into the break.

STAC would rally in the 2nd half, beginning the period with a 22-10 run to cut the Nyack lead to 51-40.  STAC would pull as close as 3 points, and would fire a shot in the closing seconds to potentially erase the Warrior lead.  Nyack would play tight defense on the final STAC possession and hold on for the 66-63 win.

"We knew coming into this game it was going to be a battle.  We have a ton of respect for STAC and the history of this rivalry.  I was happy to see us stick together down the stretch and get the win.    It's important for our young team to learn how to play with a lead--it's just part of the growth process.  I like the fact that we continue to improve and thats whats most important." -Coach Crafton

Nyack would be led by Khalid Samuels, who exploded for 31 points on 13-18 shooting.  Chris Hampton also registered 13 points and 4 steals, and Miguel Martin would pull down a team high 7 rebounds.

Nyack returns to action on December 31st, when they play host to Dowling College at 1 PM.
