Post Holds Off Nyack 79-69 For Men’s Basketball

WATERBURY, C.T. (Jan. 10, 2013) Give the Nyack College men's basketball team credit for this much in their 79-69 loss last night in CACC match-up to 3rd in the North Division, Post University.

The Warriors Battled.

When they started off 0-6 in the first half, they battled. Even as things threatened to get away from them in the first half, facing deficits of being down by as much as 20 points, they battled. And they cut the deficit, however marginally, down by 10 points at the half 30-40.

Frank Martin from a defensive rebound would put up the first basket in the second half. Chris Hampton landed a jump shot while Khalid Samuels & Miguel Martin's layups were the subsequent 3 baskets on the Warrior side bringing the men to 40 points by 14:28. After Will Robinson, who was 3-5 and shared a high of 7 boards with Martin, lays it up the Warriors would gain 5 more points by way of free throws to eventually tie the contest 51-51 with 7:51 remaining on the clock.

Post (6-3, 10-6) had to sweat things out late, prevailing after a few Nyack turnovers. Post shot 83.3% from the free throw line in the 2nd which also assisted in their stretching of the lead, closing contest 79-69.

Head Coach, Jason Crafton, expecting more from his players stated after the game: "I'm proud of how hard our guys rallied to tie the game after being down by as many as 20 points.  We just couldn't pull off the win in the closing minutes of the game, but at the end of the day we shouldn't have gotten down by 20...no moral victories."

The last time these two teams concluded a matchup was an upset back in November when Post defeated the Warriors 86-48

Samuels had only 5 points in that game where last night the sophomore would end the game leading Nyack with 25 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 rebounds. Hampton trailed in scoring, putting up 15. Overall the Warriors shot 48% making it the best field goal percentage all season.

Improvements are being made as the team moves forward. They are clearly not the same group of men as they were starting out, however it's going to take more effort from the Warriors to to hold off these top team in the conference.

Nyack returns to action facing Concordia in another CACC matchup on Saturday January 12th. The 3pm contest will be held on their campus in Bronxville, New York.
