Warriors Jump Start Campaign In Exhibition Opener With Manhattan Jaspers

RIVERDALE, NY (November 1, 2013)

Men's basketball opened up their 2013-14 season in exhibition play on Friday evening as the Warriors battled NCAA Division I opponent, Manhattan College.  Nyack would fall to Manhattan 87-61.  Manhattan is currently ranked 18th in the nation in the NCAA Division 1 Mid-Major Poll.

The Jaspers came out strong taking a 6-0 lead after the first four minutes of play.

Nyack's Will Robinson (Mt. Vernon, NY) eventually put the first bucket on the score board for the Warriors and by 8:54, a three pointer by Darren Chew (Uniondale, NY) allowed for the Warriors to close the gap to a Manhattan lead of 18-15. This would be the closest Nyack would get as Manhattan would end the half scoring three three-point baskets to help extend their lead 43-21 going into the locker room.

In the second half an 8-0 run allowed for the Jaspers to the lead by 30 points.  The Warriors responded with a second half run out-scoring the Jaspers 38-27 in the final 14 minutes of play.  That effort would not be enough though as Manhattan would take a 87-61 victory.

Sophomore Robinson led Nyack with a team-high 19 points and tied for rebounds at seven a piece with sophomore forward Miguel Martin (Miami, FL). Isaiah Roberts (Pennsauken, NJ) chipped in with 8 points along with teammates Martin and Chew tallying 7 points respectively.

"Manhattan is a top-notch opponent.  They have great talent and our well coached.  I was proud of how our guys competed for the most part especially in the second half.  Foul trouble really hurt us and we were unable to keep certain lineups on the court that we wanted.  We have to learn how to play hard without fouling.  This was a great learning experience for us and it will only make our program better moving forward." - Coach Crafton

The Warriors begin their regular season next Friday as they take on local rival Mercy College at home at 7pm.
