NYACK, NY (January 2, 2014)
The Warriors men's basketball team jump-started their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule in a battle against North Division opponent Caldwell College on Thursday afternoon.
Both teams would alternate leads in the first half having the game tied a total of three times. After trailing 31-25 with 4:11 left in regulation, Moore's three-point-play after being fouled on a layup, allowed the Warriors to gain a new shift in momentum.
Caldwell would next turn the ball over where Warrior Hampton drained a 3-pointer to tie the game 31-31 by the 2:07 mark. The Cougars used a 5-2 run to re-take the lead as the half ended 36-33.
Hampton, Moore, and Isaiah Roberts (Pennsauken, NJ) would all have 11 points each for the Nyack team going into the locker room break.
In the second half Caldwell came out aggressive, holding the lead for the first seven minutes. Nyack would take the lead for the first time in the half (45-47) by 13:05 and the Cougars responded right away tying the game again, 47-47. The game continued to rally and by the 2:02 mark Kevin Walker brought Caldwell within one point (71-70).
For the remainder of the half Nyack used their eleven made free throws to stretch the lead as the final score reflected 84-72. Nyack shot 89.3% from the free throw line (25-of-28), forced more Caldwell turnovers, held a 40-31 rebounding advantage including more offensive rebounds to result in scoring more second chance points by a margin of 20-7 over Caldwell.
Nyack junior guard Hampton lead all scorers with 26 points and Moore recorded a career high 24 points along with a game high 9 rebounds, while his fellow classmate Roberts contributed with a career high 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Warrior guard Khalid Samuels dished a game high 6 assists in the winning effort.
Cougar forward Terik Bridgeman notched a double-double on the evening with a game high 17 points and 14 rebounds respectively.
Warrior Men's hoops improve to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action while the Cougars fall 7-5, 3-2 CACC.
Nyack's next game will be Saturday afternoon when they travel to visit South Division opponent Goldey-Beacom College starting at 3PM eastern time.
