CALDWELL, NJ – The Nyack College Men's Basketball Team was defeated by Caldwell College 76-67 in an intense Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference showdown on Tuesday night at the Newman Center. The Cougar win splits the CACC season series 1-1.

Inside The Game
Warrior Dante Agnew (Queens, NY) dished a team-high 4 assists while classmate Khalid Samuels led all the Warriors with 27 points on 9-17 shooting. Behind him, senior Isaiah Roberts (Pennsauken, NJ) finished with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals while junior Nick Moore (Sicklerville, NJ) tallied 11 points, 3 blocks, and tied the game-high 9 rebounds with Cougar Terik Bridgeman. Kevin Walker led Caldwell with 16 points.

Nyack came out of the gate trailing in the first half until junior Chris Hampton (Queens, NY) tied the game at 11:22 (22-22). From there the two teams rallied back and forth until Caldwell's eleven unanswered baskets which stretched the score to 26-38 with 5:05 remaining. By the halftime break Warrior Samuels recorded 19 of his 27 points and Nyack trailed 47-33.

Nyack battled for a comeback beginning in the second half. With 15:36 remaining in regulation, Nyack went on a 5-0 run to cut the Cougar lead to within four (51-47) after Robert's lay-up followed by a Samuels trey. Nyack would outscore their opponents 34-29 but the comeback wasn't enough as Caldwell took home the 76-67 game win.

A Closer Look

  • The Warriors ended the game shooting 35.3 percent overall on 24-of-68 shooting, including a 9-of-26 mark from long range. Nyack converted 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line, while Caldwell out-rebounded the Warriors 41-35.
  • Nyack scored just 24 points in the paint while the Cougars landed 32 points but Nyack scored ten more second chance baskets compared to Caldwell,18-8.
  • The Warriors forced more Cougar turnovers (17-10) and tallied 17 points off turnovers
  • Caldwell finished 27-of-56 (48.2) overall and 5-of-17 (29.4) from downtown, and finished 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) from the line.

Warriors return to action on Saturday February 1st to play Georgian Court University at home. The CACC contest is slated for a 1PM start.
