Nyack College has announced the tragic news of the passing of Men's Basketball rising Sophomore Forward Zahir Edwards.  Edwards was pronounced dead on Wednesday evening May 11th in Philipsburg, St Maarten while he was home visiting family.  His home going ceremony will be in Philipsburg, St Maarten.  An official date has not been released yet.

Edwards just completed his freshman campaign and had a strong spring workout season. Known to many for his high-flying dunks and athleticism, Edwards was also a scholar-athlete with a 3.5 GPA and who made a strong impact on his teammates and the campus community.

Nyack Head Men's Basketball Coach Jason Crafton shared:

"Nothing can prepare you for the shock that we experienced losing one of our own. What a GREAT kid, student, teammate, and friend to ALL. He was also a player on-the-rise. I absolutely loved Z! Our Team loved him, this campus loved him. In fact, everyone loved Zahir. It was just last week he was in my office reflecting on the year and how far he'd come. We looked toward the future with excitement. Now he has moved on to a better place. Zahir, we will forever be proud of you. You hold a special place in our hearts. It was a blessing to have been a part of your journey and to watch you grow physically, mentally and most importantly--SPIRITUALLY. Anyone who witnessed his starting point and where he finished the year knows how far he came in every aspect of his life.

Zahir, we will make sure you are remembered as we celebrate your life!"
