Men's Basketball Falls to UDC in Overtime Thriller

Washington, D.C. -- The Nyack College men's basketball team dropped their last game of the year 2016 on the road to the University of the District Columbia Firebird. The non-conference match against ended with a final score of 97-102 in overtime.

Nyack (3-8) had three players in double figures, led by Robert Tyler's game high 43 points and five rebounds. He was followed by Imran Ritchie with 17 and Shawn Witherspoon with 10 points. 

The Firebirds jumped ahead with a 8-2 run in the opening minutes to take a six point lead. However, the Warriors answered with a 8-0 run to jump ahead at the 15:29 minute mark, 10-8. There would be several lead changes within the first half. The score was tied 14-14 with 12:24, when the Warriors used a 10-2 run to earn a 8-point lead with 9:58 to go. Nyack would hold on to the lead throughout the remaining minutes to finish the first period with a 9-point lead, 42-33.

The Warriors came out hot in the second half and started with a 11-0 run to increase their lead to 16. Nyack was able to increase their lead to as much as 20 points with 6 minutes left in the game. However, the Firebirds fought their way back and tied the game with a 34-14 run in the remaining minutes and forced overtime, 86-86.

UDC would jump ahead in overtime with a quick 5-point lead and would hold on to it throughout the entire 5 minutes. The game would end with a final score of 102-97 in favor of the Firebirds. 

The Warriors return to action on Jan. 4, when they travel to Philadelphia to square off with the Holy Family Unversity Tigers. Tip off is slated for 8:00pm.
