Nyack, NY - The Nyack College men's basketball team suffered a tough road loss to the Post University Eagles, 74-77. Post's Matt Mareno earned his team the win with a three-point buzzer beater. The loss drops the Warriors to 6-12, 2-9 CACC, while Post improves to 8-11, 7-5 CACC.
Post University enjoyed the better start into the game earning a five point lead, 6-11, at the 16:16 minute mark. The Eagles were able to hold on to that five point lead until the 11:17 minute mark, before a Shawn Witherspoon layup sparked a 7-0 run to give Nyack the four point lead, 25-21. The remaining minutes of the first half saw several tied score and lead changes and would eventually finish with a score of 36-35 in favor of the Warriors.d their lead to 11 with 2:08 to go, 44-33. However, Nyack would fight back with eight unanswered points to cut the visitor's lead down to three at halftime, 44-41.
The score remained close during the first five minutes of the second half, before Post used a 5-0 run to pull ahead by six with 14:49 to go in the game. A Jaron Smith shot from behind the arc would tie the game only two minutes later, 49-49. Both teams showed tremendous play and the spectators saw an entertaining half with tied scores and several lead changes until the final seconds of the game. Post was leading by six points with six seconds left in the game, 68-74. But three point buckets by Jaron Smith and Shawn Witherspoon tied the game, 74-74, with one second left. Post had one more final play and Matt Mareno drained the three point buzzer beater to give his Eagles the victory.
The Warriors will be back in action this upcoming Saturday, when they host the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning in a CACC contest. Tip-off is slated for 3:00pm.
