Wilmington, DE - The Nyack College Men's Basketball were defeated on the road against the Wilmington University Wildcats, 97-84, on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Warriors to 6-15, 2-12 CACC, while Wilmington improves to 16-7, 11-3 CACC.
Nyack Junior Imran Ritchie led Nyack with a career high in assists (14). Senior Ga'Briel Chandler scored 18 points with additional double-digit efforts from Shawn Witherspoon (15 points) and senior Jaron Smith (14 points).
The Warriors opened the scoring on a Ga'Briel Chandler layup at the 19:40 mark of the first half. Both teams battled back and forth in the opening minutes with several lead changes. However, the Wildcats pulled away with a 7-0 run to earn a six point lead at the 16:07 minute mark, 6-12. Wilmington would hold the lead through the majority of the first half. Nyack took the lead for the first time since the 17th minute, when Curtis Thompson gave the Warriors the one-point lead with a made lay-up at the 10 second mark, 47-46. However, Wilmington was able to regain the lead with a made jump-shot at the buzzer, 47-48.
The Wildcats enjoyed the better start into the second half with a 8-0 run, 47-56 at the 16:31 minute mark. Wilmington was able to increase their lead to as much as 18 points with 8:17 to go, 63-81. The Warriors were able to cut the Wildcat lead back down to 11, with 2:10 to go in the game. However, this was not enough and the game eventually ended with a score of 84-97 in favor of the Wildcats.
The Warriors will move on to host Caldwell University this upcoming Tuesday night in a CACC conference match at Bowman Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm.
