Warriors Edged out by Division I Central Connecticut State in Exhibition Battle, 62-65

New Britain, CT- The Nyack College men's basketball team traveled to Connecticut for one last test before their regular season will start next week. The Warriors fought hard for 40 minutes against the Division 1 foe but were defeated 62-65.  

The Warriors were led by freshmen Deandre Osuigwe  who recorded 16 points. He was followed by sophomore Curtis Thompson (15 points) and senior Imran Ritchie with 10 points.

Nyack College enjoyed the better start into the game earning the first layup, 2-0, by Shawn Witherspoon at the 18:57th minute mark. The Warriors were able to hold on to that lead before a three pointer from the blue devils put Nyack at a one point reach. The first half continued to be a back and forth battle with both teams answering back.  However, Curtis Thompson's back to back free throw shots put the Warriors 31-26 at the end of the half. 

Going into the second half it was up to the Blue Devils to shut down Nyacks lead. The Warriors began to struggle as missed shots in the first couple minutes gave moment over to Central Connecticut. Bite Deon of the Blue Devils made a dunk shot to bring the game to a tie at 32-32. However, Ezekiel Snowden and Deandre Osuigwe both added to the team score to now bring the game to a Nyacks 40-38 lead at 13:44 in the second half. The Blue Devils took the lead again for the second time after a 2-pt. shot with 9:45 to go in the game. The score remained close during the rest of the second halftime. Both teams showed tremendous play and the spectators saw an entertaining half with close scores through the final seconds of the game. The Blue Devils were leading by four points points with 13 seconds left in the half, before a  Carl Balthazar 3-pt. shot would bring Nyack within one. Central Connecticut would close out the game with two made free throws of its own. 

The Warriors will be start their 2017-18 campaign next Friday, November 10th, when they are on the road to face the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks at 6:00 pm as part of the Daemen College Tournament.
