NYACK, NY - The Nyack men's basketball team lost on Saturday afternoon to non-conference opponent Stonehill College. Stonehill was fueled by 15 made three point field goals on the afternoon. Despite a furious comeback attempt late in the second half in which the Warriors went on a 21-7 run, the Skyhawks were able to hold on for a 75-57 win.
Both teams came out the gate ready to play, with each team trading baskets through the first 5 minutes of the game. A couple of 3 point baskets from DeAndre Osuigwe gave the Warriors an early lead. The Skyhawks would answer right back with a quick jumper at the fifteen minute mark to take the lead for good. Stonehill was slowly able to build their lead as the half wore on and went into the break up 34-24.
The second half was more of the same for the Skyhawks as they came out of the half and continued with their jump shooting barrage. They were slowly able to build their lead up to 25 points in the second half, but the Warriors would not go away. Nyack would go on a 21-7 run to cut the lead to 11 after a made free throw with a minute fifty left to play in the game. Time would ultimately run out on the Warriors before they could overcome the defecit. The Warriors were led on the night by freshman DeAndre Osuigwe who had 19 points and 7 rebounds.
Nyack returns to action next week as they head to Philadelphia on Wednesday to take on Jefferson University. Tip-off is slated for 8pm.
