Nyack, NY - The Nyack Men's Basketball team took on the Usciences Devils in a battle for another conference win at home on Saturday afternoon. The Warrior needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alives but just came up short, 69-82. The loss drops the Nyack record to 6-12 in the CACC, while the Devils improved to 10-8.
The Devils were off to a better start leading 9-2 after the first three minutes of the game. Nyack trailed by seven points until the halfway mark of the first period when senior Rashard Lewis drained two three pointers in a row to cut the Devils' lead down to one with 10:54 to go, 15-14. USciences answered with a quick 7-0 run to extend their lead back to eight. Both teams continued to battle back and forth through the remainder of the first period. Nyack would come as close as two points, but the Devils eventually carried a 10-point lead into the half, 28-38.
Usciences continued to extend their lead to 16 with the start of the second half, 33-49 with 15:49 to go in the game. Additionally, the Warriors started to get into foul trouble, which made the task of a comeback slightly more difficult. However, the Warriors continued to fight and slowyl trimmed down the Devils lead to 10 with 4:52 to go and a score of 58-68. Freshman Deandre Osuigwe added 7 points to the scoreboard within a minute to keep the hopes of the Warriors alive. But the Devils started to pull away again and eventually finished the game with a final score of 82-69.
The Warriors will move on to host the Dominican College Chargers for their Senior Day. The game is also the last regular season match for Nyack and is set for 3:00pm on February 24th.
