Nyack, NY - The Nyack College men's basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon with a 79-69 win over the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia. With the win on Saturday the Warriors extended their winning streak to four games.
The game went back and forth in the opening minutes with lead changes and tied scores. The Warriors had their first chance to pull away when they 7-0 run with under ten minutes left to take the lead with the score at 18-12. The Warriors defended their small margin until the closing minutes of the first half, before back to back three pointers by the Firebirds put them on top at the halftime buzzer, 36-37.
The Firebirds held on to their small lead for the majority of the first part of the second half. Nyack would tie the game for the first time in the second half at 52 with 12 minutes left. The Warriors took their first lead of the second half with 8 minutes left and the score at 61-59 after a Jayden Dawson layup off a Thomas Nolan assist. The game now went back and forth and was tied at 69 with four minutes left in the game. In the remaining four minutes the Warriors managed to outscore the Firebirds 10-0 to earn the win for the day.
Nyack was led by a double-double from sophomore Joel Bailey with 24 points and ten rebounds. Bailey's ten rebounds were tied for most amongst all players together with Junior Graham. Graduate student Perris Hicks contributed 19 points with a perfect 9-9 from the foul line.
Up next: The Warriors will have a quick turn around and will be back in action tomorrow when they host the Queens College Knights in a 2:00 pm non-conference match at Bowman Gym.
