The Nyack College men's basketball team faced off in a home conference game tonight against Caldwell University. In a game that was both offensively and defensively challenging, the Warriors put up a fight but was unable to produce anything promising losing the game with a final score of 80-65.
In the first half of the game, the Warriors were the first on the scoreboard with a jump shot made by Jayden Dawson. Caldwell came back with a three point jump shot into the basket and from there they took the lead pushing ahead of the Warriors by almost ten points within the first five minutes. The Warriors trailed behind Caldwell for most of the first half as Caldwell dominated the offense. At the end of the first half the score totaled out at 45-28, with Caldwell in a seventeen point lead over the Warriors. Caldwell was 51.4% from the field, 30.8% from behind the arc, and 100% in free throws, compared to the Warriors 41.7% from the field, 28.6% from behind the arc, and 80% in free throws.
In the second half of the game, the Warriors had a major point gap to bridge. As Caldwell continued to dominate the offense, the Warriors did not have many chances to earn back the points they had lost. They spent most of the game defending their side of the court and with ten minutes left the Warriors found themselves twenty points behind Caldwell. The Warriors continued to play hard but was unable to produce anything promising enough to bridge the point gap and lost the game with a final score of 80-65.
Overall Nyack played a consistent game across the board with 44.7% from the field, 41.7% from behind the arc, and 76.5% in free throws, but this was not enough to secure the win over Caldwell's numbers. The opposing team was 48.4% from the field, 33.3% from behind the arc, and 76.5% in free throws but they managed to many more opportunities to score over Nyack.
