Second Half Goal Gives UDC 1-0 Victory Over Nyack Soccer

WASHINGTON, DC (September 14, 2013)

In a non-CACC contest, the Nyack Men's soccer team closed out its road trip to Washington with a close battle against University of the District of Columbia.

The UDC Firebirds used a goal in the 89th minute to edge the Warriors, 1-0 on the UDC soccer field.

Sophomore, George Siotis (Oxford, MA) was issued a yellow card from just outside the box which resulted in a free kick by UDC's Nenad Smiljanic.

Nyack freshman goalkeeper, Tom Lohman (Berlin, Germany), would miss the save as Smiljanic's shot went in from a deflection off teammate Alex Schmidt (Horburg-Masslau, Germany).

With only two seconds remaining in the period, this unfortunate goal would be enough to secure the Firebirds with the game win and set Nyack's record to 1-2-1.

Despite the tough loss, the coaching staff was proud of the domination displayed the entire game against this undefeated UDC team considering the Warrior bench only had two players to substitute.

"I would say this was our best team performance so far. My coach had no negative words. Our only problem was finishing," said goal keeper Lohman . "Everyone played well, we had good communication, and I believe we will build from this experience."

Looking forward to the rest of the games on the schedule, Nyack soccer will be fortunate to finally have key players Marco Likos (Leipzig, Germany) and Justin Gabriele (Bloomingdale, NJ) playing to their full 90 minute potential, as they've recently been recovering from injuries.

Men's soccer will next be in action Wednesday, September 18th as they welcome the University of Bridgeport to Mosley Field in a home contest scheduled for 4pm.
