Warrior Men's Soccer Play To 1-1 Overtime With Cougars

CALDWELL NJ, (October 22, 2013)

In a double overtime game on Tuesday, Nyack men's soccer tied for the second time this season and for the first time in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match with a 1-1- draw against Caldwell College.

Both team goals were made during the 2nd period.

In the 46th minute the Caldwell defense allowed for a steal where Cougar Haakon Sulheim fired in a goal from twenty five yards out to give Caldwell a 0-1 lead.

A little over a minute later, Warrior Toni Mutschler (Frankfurt Oder, Germany) assisted a cross pass from the left side to teammate Alex Schmidt (Horburg-Masslau, Germany) where he would respond netting a goal to tie the match 1-1.

Nyack continued to look for opportunities to break the tie as they led by a margin of 16-12 with shots taken in the game, however the defense on both ends made it difficult resulting in the final 2OT draw.

The Cougars & Warriors recorded 5 corner kicks each. Nyack goalkeeper Tom Lohman (Berlin Germany) made 5 saves while Caldwell goalie recorded 3 saves respectively.

Nyack defender Schmidt marked his third goal on the year to currently lead with teammate Maxi Fuchs (Munich, Germany) as the top team scorers while Mutschler leads the team with a high of 3 assists.

Nyack (7-6-2, 4-4-1 CACC) are idle the rest of the week until Saturday, October 26th when they take on No. 4 in the conference, Wilmington University. Home kick-off is set for 2:30pm on Mosley Field.
