Nyack, NY. - A header in the 105th minute of overtime lifted the Nyack College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at CACC rival Chestnut Hill College earlier this Saturday during homecoming.
In the second period of overtime Samuel Viau skip-headed a long throwin to Andrew Kupp, who was able to head the ball in for his second goal of the season and the game-winner for the Warriors (6-7-0/5-4-0 CACC).
The Warriors jumped ahead in the first half with a 1-0 lead as Finn Reese scored off a penatly kick in the 23rd minute. Nyack ended the first half with a 7-3 advantage in shots. Chestnut Hill would tie the game with a penalty of its own in the 80th minute. Chestnut Hill cut the shot deficit to 11-7 before the overtime session. The Warriors and Griffins recorded two corner kicks each during 90 minutes.
Heading into the overtime, each team attempted a shot in the first period. However, the score remained scoreless. In the 105th minute Finn Reese's throw in found the head of Samuel Viau, who skipped it through to Andrew Kupp for the game winner. Wiktor Lasota finished the day with three saves, while Chestnut Hill's James Jackson recorded two saves.
The Warriors will be back in action this upcoming Wednesday, when they travel to New Jersey to take on the Caldwell University Cougars. The game is scheduled for 3:00pm.
