Easton, MA-The Nyack Men's Soccer team ties in their season opener against Stonehill College on Saturday night played on the campus of the Skyhawks.
As early as eight minutes within the first half of the game, Nyack's Alex Garcia (West New York, NJ) sought his first shot attempt but couldn't get past Stonehill's Goalie, Conor McDonough. The Skyhawk's battled back to score the first goal of the half at 34:43. Stonehill's goal by Michael Mcshane was assisted by Adam Branco. Francois Legodec tried to immediately answer back but the Skyhawks Goalie would not let up.
Following the end of the first half, the Warriors had an opportunity to regroup and come back stronger. Mitchell Reed's (Toms River, NJ) first shot of the second half showed their ability to adjust yet once again it was saved by the Skyhawak's Keeper. However, just when Nyack thought they could not find the back of the net they found leverage off of a penalty kick as Finn Reese (Hamburg, Germany) secured their 1-1 tie. Both teams could not score and eventually found themselves in overtime.
In the first overtime, the Nyack Warriors would be the only team to have shots on goal with Alex Garcia and Francois Legoedec searching for the net. As the second overtime kicked off, the Warriors found themselves with majority of the possession but could not get any of their three shots in the goal. Within the 110 minutes played, Nyack's Goalie, Alvaro Magel (Hamburg, Germany) made three astonishing saves to keep the score at a tie.
The Warriors will play Assumption in their next contest on Monday, September 4th at 2:30 pm.
