Nyack, NY- The Nyack Men's Soccer team was back in action today at Nyack High School. The Warriors hosted the Firebirds of UDC, which would finish with a 1-2 loss to Dist. of Columbia.
The Warriors found themselves with a save as Dist. Columbia dished the first shot of the half. Nyack quickly took the ball up the field to force a corner kick by Francois Legoedec but it would get blocked as Nyack's Mitchell Reed would try to to head it back in. The Firebirds would break the tie in the 42nd minute when a freekick found the head of Michael Agboola, who found the back of the net to give UDC the 1-0 lead. The Warriors had two more shots to try and tie the game but Dist. Columbia would hold them off until haltime.
The Firebirds remained the leaders on the board as they scored another goal in the second half to lead with 2-0. The Warriors had four shot opportunities prior to that. As the second half proceeded, the Warriors battled with the Firebirds to posses their first goal of the game. Nyack's, David Alessio, would put the Warriors on the board with his first goal on the season. The Warriors couldn't score again to tie the game. Nyack's goalie, Alvaro Magel, saved six of the eight shots on goal by the Firebirds.
Next up, the Warriors return to Nyack High School as they host their first conference game against Post University. Kick off is at 8:15pm on September 13th.
