Magel Secures First Shutout of the Season in 2-0 Win Over Caldwell

Nyack, NY- Under the lights of Nyack High School, the Warriors defeated Caldwell University in a CACC contest. A (2-0) lead in the game gave the defense for the Warriors a more solid reason to defend their territory, and they did just that! Alvaro Magel, the Goalie for Nyack, ended the game with a shutout to contribute to the victory. The Warriors go (3-4) in conference play.

It took six minutes from kick off for Caldwell to find the first shot of the match except it was no match for Nyack's, Alvaro Magel as he made his first save for the night. Like Caldwell, the Warriors wanted to test the Goalie for the Cougars as Pablo Montes shot attempt was saved. Both teams battled back in forth to tie with shot attempts before Nyack managed to put a (1-0) on the scoreboard. As Nyack worked their way up the field, Francois Legoedec, saw the most perfect opportunity after rebounding a cross. His second goal of the season gave Nyack that (1-0) lead to keep pressing forward. The cougars recorded two more shots before the half, but none were successful.

When the second period time began, Nyack wasted no time with trying to put another goal on the scoreboard. An eager Nyack team spent the first two minutes chasing the ball into space. At 47:01 in the second half, Mitchell Reed, of the Warriors found the back of the net. Assisted by Sam Viau, he was able to receive the long throw in and head the ball. The Warriors lead with (2-0). As the game proceeded the Warriors were able to use their lead to work set pieces. Although shots were made, the Warriors could not sink another one in. The Cougars struggled offensively to score in the second half despite their majority of possession. Caldwell had 9 shots on the Warriors, but each were unsuccessful as the goalie for Nyack saved 6 of those goals. Nyack finished the second half with 9 attempted shots and the (2-0) Victory lead over the Cougars.
