Nyack, NY - The Nyack College men's soccer team opened its 2018 home campaign with a 5-1 loss to the Shippensburg University Raiders on Wednesday night at Nyack High School.
The Raiders struck early in the game when Julian Horstmann scored for Shippensburg at the five minute mark. The Raiders added another goal ten minutes later. The Warriors got one back three minutes later when Nicholas Scarafile sent in a freekick from the right side that found the head of Benjamin Wasem who beat the Raiders goalkeeper from five yards out. But the Raiders would retaliate only six minutes later to go up 3-1, which marked the halftime score. The Raiders outshot the Warriors by 8-7 in the first 45 minutes.
Shippensburg added two more goals in the second half to earn a 5-1 victory over Nyack. The Raiders held a 8-2 shot advantage in the second period. With the loss the Warriors' overall record dropped to 1-2. Nyack will be back this Saturday when they host the Holy Family University Tigers in their 2018 conference opener.
