Men's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker with Chestnut Hill

Nyack, NY– The Nyack College men's soccer team hosted the Chestnut Hill College Griffins on Saturday afternoon for their homecoming match. The Warriors lost a dramatic game with a score of 2-4.

The Warriors got on the scorebaord first when Mitchell Reed scored with a header off a corner by Nicholas Scarafile in the 8th minute. But The Griffins would turn the game around with three goals between the 15th and the 19th minute to earn a 3-1 lead. Javier Fernandez got the Warriors within one when he beat the goalkeeper 1-on-1 after a beautiful diagonal ball from Vitor Cositorto with ten minutes left in the first half.

Nyack pushed for the game tying goal in the second period but was unable to create any promising opportunities. In the 71st minute Nyack's goalkeeper Pedro Santolaya pulled down a Chestnut Hill attacker in the box and received a red card. His substitute Alvaro Magel saved the following penalty to keep Nyack in the game. The Warriors threw everyting up front in the final minutes of the game, but it was the Griffins who found the back of the net one more time in the 89th minute. 

Mitchell Reed and Javier Fernandez scored a goal each, while Scarafile and Cositorto recorded an assist on the day.

The Warriors will be back in action on Wednesday when they take on the Post University Eagles on the road. Kick off is slated for 3pm.
