Nyack, NY - The Nyack College men's soccer team hosted the St. Anselm College Hawks on Sunday in another non-conference match. In a game that went back and forth the Hawks kept the upper hand and won the game with a final score of 4-3.
The Warriors got on the scoreboard first when Nicolas Plaja sent a cleared free kick back into the box, where the ball glided past Warriors and Hawks into the St. Anselm goal. St. Anselm answered back in the 18th minute when Zach Elliot found the back of the Nyack net after a scramble in the six yard box. The Hawks took the lead for the first time when Nick Heckt executed a free kick quick from 25 yards out to find the upper left corner of the Warrior goal. Nyack tried to push and find the equalizer but was unsuccesful to create anything promising in the remainder of the first half.
The Warriors started the second half off on the right foot when Noah Levitt found the back of the net after only 27 seconds. But the Hawks pulled away once again with back to back goals after corner kicks in the 46 and 49th minute. The Warriors refused to give up and kept pushing forward. Mitchell Reed curled a free kick from 25 yards into the top left corner in th 82nd minute to bring the Warriors within one. Nyack threw everything up to find the equalizer, but the Hawks threw everything in the way to keep Nyack away from their own goal. The game eventually finished with a final score of 4-3.
Up next: Nyack will be back on Tuesday when they travel to the University of New Haven to square off with the Chargers at 7pm.
