BRONX, NY - The Nyack College men's cross country team jump-started the new season at the Fordham University Fiasco Invite. On a hot and humid Saturday morning the 5-mile race was held on the hilly trails of Van Cortland Park.
The complete field of 156 Division I, II, and III competitors from sixteen schools raced together but would be divided into two finishing categories where Nyack finished 7th/8 overall in DII/III team standings with 177points.
The College of New Jersey captured the DII/III team title while NAVY claimed the DI team title. Individuals who placed in the top twenty overall were awarded and junior transfer Benjamin Barragan (Moreno Valley, CA) who was was recognized for his exceptional racing efforts in his collegiate debut as a Warrior.
Nyack's top five was led by Barragan, who finished 16th overall in 28:30.36. Sophomore Mateusz Gacik (Mysliborz, Poland) also had strong race as his time on the challenging course was good for 40th place in 29:37.61. Nathaniel Dominy (Christiansburg, VA) crossed the line 49th at 30:02.75 while teammate Thomas Trott (Frederick, MD) trailed behind eleven seconds later (53rd) at 30:23.78. Sophomore Stephen Bailey (Milford, CT) completed the Nyack top five scorers; finishing in 33:48.70 respectively.
Aaron Dinzeo of California (Pa.) won the meet in a time of 25:23.15 (Div. II/III) while Stephen Schroeder (NAVY) won individually for Div. I in a time of 26:17.25.
