Nyack, NY - The Nyack cross country team started their official season at the Ramapo College Season Opener. The event was an opportunity for both the men's and the women's teams to see how their hard work in preseason paid off, and to run against other schools for outside competition.
The women's XC team finished third overall in the 5k race with a combined score of 105 and an average time of 22:13.0. Senior Sidney Gall was the top finisher for Nyack with a time of 21:22.8 and a score of 13, with Winnie Jepkoech close behind her at 21:29.9 and a score of 14 for the team.
For the men's XC team, Zachary Trador finished 9th overall in the 5k race with a time of 16:33.2. Thomas Trott was the next finisher for Nyack with a time of 17:55.2. The men's team was not able to run for team placement, but still was able to compete in the race with the Nyack runners giving their best individual efforts.
With the first race of the season completed, the cross country teams are now able to continue to adjust their times and paces in practice as they keep pushing forward. Senior Ariana Nash commented enthusiastically that the race was a "promising start" for the cross country athletes, as they prepare for next week's race in Poughkeepsie.
