2014 Softball Season Preview

NYACK, NY - The Lady Warriors Softball team has introduced a mission statement for their 2014 season:

The Nyack College softball team is a unified body committed to intentional discipline, determination, and passion. We are consistent in our attitude and effort and work hard in every opportunity we are given, no matter the sacrifice.
II Timothy 4:2-5

The intensity level for the team has been consistent throughout the preseason, and the girls will soon get their reward for all of the hard work they have put in. The addition of two pitchers to the roster, sophomore transfer Kim Yano and freshman Ashley Manger, will help bring depth into the pitching rotation, with sophomores Christine Kline and Tori Flemming also returning to the mound. Both Kline and Flemming will also serve in middle infield positions when not in the circle, and will be joined there by senior captain Kathleen McClain. Junior transfer Elaina Vasquez with her quickness a foot will bring maturity and leadership to an already quick outfield consisting of junior captain Kelsey Lyons, sophomore Elyanna Rivas, and seniors Becky Ferry and Anna Bailey Shuman.

Anna Bailey Shuman is coming off a 2013 season which she batted .282 with 7 stolen bases. After a redshirted sophomore season, junior captain Meghan Richards will be at first base and adding offense to the team. Senior Tesla Murillo, which batted .292 (highest average) in the 2013 season, will be back again behind the plate along with sophomore Hannah Lake.

The Spring Training trip starts on March 8th at the NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER in Clermont, Florida.
