Softball Splits Conference Doubleheader With Concordia Clippers

ORANGEBURG, NY - The Nyack College women's softball team storm back to win game 2 after falling in five innings during earlier game and improve their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record to 2-6 on the year. Elaina Vasquez (Gilroy, CA) would slam a home run in the 9-3 victory as the Lady Warriors split the two games by a score of 8-0 and 9-3.

Inside The Game
Christine Kline (Midland Park, NJ) started the game for the Warriors and pitched 4 and 1/3 innings, with Tori Flemming (Plano, Texas) coming into finish the fourth and fifth inning. Concordia's offense was strong, multiple singles were hit, along with a timely double and triple to bring in the runs. Nyack's offense was not able to respond. Concordia's Hannah Rubasky pitched a complete game no-hitter in the 8-0 shutout victory as she recorded three strikeouts. Rubasky would almost record a perfect game for the Clippers but an error in the fourth inning was the only blemish during the game.

The second game was won by Nyack 9-3. Flemming pitched an outstanding game, only giving up 4 hits. Nyack began with four runs in the home half of the first inning and then added three more runs in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead. By the fifth inning the Lady Warriors added two insurance runs to keep Concordia at bay. In addition, the Nyack's defense put forth an errorless effort throughout all seven innings to seal the 9-3 nightcap.

Nyack's offense was started off by Vasquez, who hit a 2 run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Also in the first inning were multiple walks and a hit by Tesla Murillo (Indio, CA) giving the Warriors a lead 4-0 early in the game. The powerful offense of the Nyack Warriors was led by Vasquez and Meghan Richards (Nanuet, NY) who both went 2-4, and Kim Yano (Blauvelt, NY) who went 2-3 with a single and a double.  Other singles were hit by Warriors Anna Bailey (Milford, CT) and Flemming. 

Up Next:
Nyack Softball is set to play Bloomfield College at home in a make-up game on Friday April 4th from a cancellation that occured March 25th. The CACC twinbill is scheduled for a 3&5pm start.
