The Lady Warriors Softball team snapped a 4-game losing skid with solid pitching and timely hitting on Monday, defeating cross-town rival Dominican College, 3-1, at Dominican.
Senior Kim Yano scattered 5 hits and struck out 3 for the complete game win. Freshman Alissa Brugnoli was 3 for 3 and scored 2 runs for the Warriors while grad student Meghan Richards hit a solo blast in the top of the 5th inning for an insurance run. Nyack (5-15) took the early lead with a Brugnoli double followed by an rbi-single by sophomore Kylie Brase.
Dominican tied the game in the bottom of the first, 1-1, before Nyack went back on top, 2-1 in the 3rd, on a Brase sacrifice fly, scoring Brugnoli. Richards' timely blast in the fifth and Yano's determination on the mound secured the win.
"Our record is not indicative of who we are," stated Warriors head coach Jeff Aumend. " We have played lots of games like this one, just failed to finish. Today, we played with confidence and energy to complete the win."
Nyack hosts nationally-ranked and pre-season CACC favorite Caldwell College on Wednesday at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. at South Orangetown Little League Complex.
