Nyack splits at USciences, 0-6, 7-5

PHILADELPHIA - The Nyack College Warriors continue their improvement with another road split in the CACC, splitting a doubleheader at University of the Sciences, 0-6 & 7-5, in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Sophomore pitcher Kylie Brase earned the game 2 win, as the Warriors (7-25, 4-10) jumped out early, leading 6-0, after scoring 2 in the second and 4 in the third.  USciences (9-20, 7-9) scratched its way back, trailing 7-3 after 6 and scoring 2 more in the 7th, before Brase shut the door with a groundout by Barbie Barron to third baseman Alissa Brugnoli to end the game - stranding 2 Devils runners.

"Our offense is coming," stated Warriors head coach Jeff Aumend. "We are learning to be aggressive when we need to be aggressive and disciplined on our pitch weaknesses.  A slow start with a tough schedule in Florida has skewed our record.  We're playing pretty well in the second half of the season."

Freshman Katie Lupinacci's 2-run homer capped a 4-run 4th inning. launching the Warriors to the early 6-0 lead.  Leadoff hitter Brugnoli scored two runs as did freshman Brittany Blair.  Brugnoli was 2 for 4 while sophomore shortstop Aferdita Sinanaj added a triple and scored a run.

Devils pitcher Cassie Lapotsky tossed a 4-hitter and the Warriors stranded 8 runners in the opening game loss.   Nyack hosts non-league local rival Mercy College, Thursday at South Orangetown Little League Complex at 2:30/4:30 p.m.  The Warriors return to CACC action on Saturday, as they host Wilmington College.
