Nyack Softball opened its 2017 campaign when they travelled to North Carolina to compete in the Chowan University Hawks Softball Classic this last weekend, February 18-19. 

In game 1 Nyack earned 5 hits and 1 run out of 24 at bats. Erskine had started off with four scored runs in the first inning to earn a 4-0 lead. Junior Aferdita Sinanaj (Tappan, NY) earned the Warrior's only run in the second inning when junior Shelby Davidson (Middletown, NY) doubled through the left side of the field to allow, freshman Nicole Wisser (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) to advance to third base and Sinanaj to score. Erskine responded with another run of its own in he second inning to make the score 5-1, which would also represent the final score of game 1.

Game 2 saw Nyack face the hosts Chowan Uniervsity. Spectators saw 10 Warrior hits spread through the line-up out of 31 at bats.  Junior Sarah Spindel (Gilroy, CA), sophomore Alissa Brugnoli (Hamilton, NJ), and junior Aferdita Sinanaj (Tappan, NY) each earned at least 1 hit and 1 run, establishing a rhythm for the team to fall into. Seven of the ten batters garnered at least 1 hit for the match. Brugnoli would lead the Warriors with two runs for the game, scoring in the 3rd and the 5th inning. The game went back and forth, seeing both teams with the upperhand at some point through the match. The game score was 5-5 after 7 innings and had to be decided in extra innings. It was Chowan that saw a run scored after Kayla Robins singled for the Hawks to earn the 6-5 victory. 

In game three Nyack was led by sophomore Alissa Brugnoli and junior Katalina Padilla with two runs and one hit each. Padilla's first score of the day came off a homerun in the second inning. Morgan Hans also recorded a homerun in the top of 4th. Nyack would score in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th inning to earn a 5-4 advantage, after Queens (N.C.) had scored four times in the bottom of the second. Queens (N.C.) would eventually earn the victory with scored runs in the 5th and 6th inning to earn a 7-5 victory over the Warriors. 

In game 4 Nyack faced the host Chowan University for a second time. However, the game was fairly one-sided seeing Nyack with two hits out of 17 at bats, while Chowan recorded 17 hits out of 33 at bats, scoring 13 times. Chowan scored once each in the first and second inning before adding five runs in the top of third and six runs in the top of the fifth to seal the 13-0 victory after five innings.

Nyack will return to the field when they travel to Clermont, Florida for their Spring Break trip starting competition on March 3rd with a game against Michigan-Dearborn at 9:00 AM.
