Clermont, FL - The Nyack College Softball team came up short twice on their last day of their Spring Break Trip losing both games with a score of 8-7.
Game one saw Nyack square off with Southwest Minn. St. The Mustangs jumped to a 6-0 lead in the top of third inning. Nyack needed an inning to recover, but eventually fought their way back into the game scoring six runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth. Nyack saw itself with bases loaded when Katie Lupinacci was up at bat. The sophomore from Bordentown, NJ, doubled down the left field line bringing home all three of her teammates. Up next was Katalina Padilla, who reached second base after an error by the Mustang's defense, which also allowed Lupinacci to reach home base, 6-4. Padilla would also score after a Sarah Spindel double down center field. Spindel rounded up the Warrior scoring and tied the game after a Aferdita Sinanaj single, 6-6.
Nyack would gain the lead for the first time in the bottom of the fifth, when Sarah Spindel doubled and Katie Lupinacci scored, 7-6. But the Mustangs would answer with two runs in the top of the 6th to seal the 8-7 victory.
Game two saw Nyack take on Findlay. The Warriors jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when Stephanie Whitel homered with Nicole Wisser on base.
But Findlay would burst out in the second inning scoring seven runs and taking the 7-2 lead.
However, Nyack fought its way back into the game. Katalina Padilla homered in the bottom of the fourth with White on base to make the score 7-4. Nyack would score again in the bottom of the fifth when Sarah Spindel scored on a fielder's choice. The Warriors came within one in the bottom of the sixth. Sarah Spindel was hit by a pitch with bases loaded, which allowed Katalina Padilla to move to home base, 7-6.
Findlay would regain a two run lead in the top of the 7th. Nyack tried to prevent the second loss of the day. Nicole Wisser's sacrifice fly would allow Alissa Brugnoli to score and help Nyack to come within one. However, Nyack was unable to add another run to the scoreboard and had to suffer their second tough loss of the day.
Up next: The Warriors will be back in action next Saturday when they host Goldey-Beacom College for their home opener. The doubleheader will be played at the South Orangetown Little League Complex at 1:00 and 3:00pm.
