The Nyack College softball team played two more games in Day 4 of their Florida tournament, starting with a game against Lewis University and then moving on to face the University of Mary March. The Warriors dropped both games, losing 12-4 to Lewis and 3-0 to Mary, bringing their total tournament record to 2-6.
In the first game, Lewis University scored right away in the top of the first with two unearned runs. Lewis would then add five more runs in the top of the second, putting Nyack down 7-0 going into the third inning. The Warriors put their first runner in the bottom of the third off of a single by Brittany Blair, and then loaded the bases on two more singles by Erin O'Brien and Alissa Brugnoli. Blair tagged up and scored after Aferdita Sinanaj flied out, and a Katie Lupinacci single right after brought O'Brien home. Brugnoli scored right after, on a steal attempt by Lupinacci, and the Warriors ended the third inning with three runs. The Warriors held Lewis scoreless through the next two innings, but Lewis scored four more runs in the top of the sixth. Morgan Hans homered for the Warriors in the bottom of the sixth, but it was Nyack's last score of the game. Lewis added one more run in the top of the seventh to seal a defeat for Nyack.
In the second game, the Warriors were put at a deficit early as the University of Mary March hit a home run in the bottom of the second. Nyack left one person on base in each inning up to the fourth but were not able to bring them home, and UMM added a run in the bottom of the fourth on another home run. In the top of the sixth, the Warriors offense was able to generate more hits, starting with a single from Erin O'Brien and followed by another single from Alissa Brugnoli. O'Brien was advanced to third on a fielder's choice, but the inning ended without any runs for Nyack. UMM scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth, with a runner reaching base on a Warriors error and then making it home with an unearned score. Katalina Padilla singled in the top of the seventh for the Warriors, but was left on base as Nyack ended the game in a loss.
Brittany Blair was the starting pitcher against Lewis, and Nicole Wisser was the starting pitcher against Mary. Alissa Brugnoli led the Warriors for the day with 3 combined hits. Aferdita Sinanaj, Katie Lupinacci, and Morgan Hans all contributed 1 RBI each.
Up next, the Warriors continue their Florida tournament play against Hillsdale at 2PM and a rematch against University of Mary March at 7PM on Tuesday 3/6.
