Nyack Softball Drops Doubleheader in CACC Opener
The Nyack College softball team faced Caldwell University in a conference double-header on Tuesday, with the Warriors falling in both games to the Cougars with scores of 9-1 and 7-1.

In the first game, Caldwell jumped out to an early lead off of a single RBI that drive in two runs, followed by two home runs that drive in two RBIs each for a total of six Cougar runs in the 1st inning. The Warriors put two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the first, but could not bring them home to answer Caldwell's scores. In the next inning, Caldwell scored three more runs off of a home run with two runners on base. Both teams were kept scoreless for the next three innings, with each team leaving runners on base. In the top of the 5th, Caldwell threatened to score again with a runner on third, but the Warriors got the next hitter to fly out to end the inning. In the bottom of the 5th, Angelique Alires walked to get on base for Nyack and advanced to second, and then made it home on a Caldwell error for Nyack's solo run. The game ended in 5 innings with Caldwell on top 9-1.

In the second game, Caldwell again claimed the early lead in the top of the 1st with two RBI doubles that put the Cougars up 2-0. Caldwell struck again in the top of the 3rd with a solo home run, but Nyack answered in the bottom of the 3rd as Erin O'Brien singled and then was brought home for an RBI off of an Aferdita Sinanaj triple. In the 4th, Caldwell scored on a sacrifice fly to go ahead 4-1. Nyack put one runner on base in the bottom of the 5th but did not score, and Caldwell brought in another RBI in the top of the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th, Nyack had a runner in scoring position on second, but grounded out to end the inning with no score. Caldwell scored twice more in the top of the 7th off a home run and an RBI single. In the bottom of the 7th, Nicole Wisser doubled to start it off but was left on base as the Warriors ended in a 7-1 loss.

Erin O'Brien led the Warriors for the day with 4 combined hits and a run. Aferdita Sinanaj contributed 1 RBI. Brittany Blake started as Nyack's pitcher for the first game and Nicole Wisser was the starting pitcher for the second game.

Up next, the Warriors take on Wilmington at 2 PM and 4 PM on Wednesday 3/28.
